Mayor Claims "Forward Strides" in State-of-Hillside Speech to Council
In an address before the Hillside Township Council last week, Mayor Karen McCoy-Oliver claimed that the town has made significant gains and forward strides in the last year.
The Mayor pointed to new car dealerships, a lighting company that relocated to Hillside from Brooklyn, and recent Urban Enterprise Zone investments as proof that her administration has turned Hillside around.
Detailing the town's UEZ work - which includes the Liberty Avenue streetscape and the purchase of fire and public works vehicles - the Mayor added that the "accomplishments" came "at no cost to the taxpayers."
In actuality, UEZ funds are obtained from the taxes paid by local merchants and businesses.
The Mayor gave her speech at the Council's annual organization meeting.
