How Hillside Pols Make a Living off of Taxpayers
The proposed salary increase for the Council is toll change compared to money some Hillside politicians make off of taxpayers through their work for Union County.
Councilmen John Kulish, Peter Corvelli, and Jorge Batista have benefited either directly or indirectly from county positions. While some have relatives with county jobs, others have the jobs themselves.
Corvelli, for instance, earns over $70,000 a year from a county job. Last year, he received a pay raise. Also pocketing a pay raise last year was Democratic chairwoman Charlotte DeFilippo who works as Director of the Union County Improvement Authority and who now earns over $100,000 a year. Corvelli serves as member of the Authority and voted in favor of her raise. Now he will vote in favor of his.
