KEEPING HILLSIDERS IN THE DARK
Is it right for a newspaper to keep important information from the public?
Hillside's local paper seems to think so. The Gazette-Leader has yet to report what a newspaper located hundreds of miles away reported weeks ago: Hillside officials' involvement in Gov. McGreevey's billboard scandals.
The newspaper maintains that this is a "state issue", and therefore not worthy for local coverage.
Really? Since when is news involving locally elected officials not considered local material?
Sources tell this column that the newspaper intends to sit on the story until management decides that it is worthy to run.
The politicians thank it in advance for the volunteer cover-up.
