Fire in Bathroom at George Washington School
Back-to-School Night at George Washington Elementary School was cancelled last week after a small fire in a boy's bathroom filled a hallway with smoke.
"The fire department was immediately notified. Students and staff exited the building in a quick and orderly manner," the school principal Victoria Palmer-Gilliard said on September 23, a day after the incident.
The fire melted a plastic soap dispenser and left wall tiles covered in soot. Further damage was a result of the fire department knocking a hole in the wall to put out the flame.
The fire was contained, but created smoke that had to be cleared with fans. The building was deemed safe for classes to resume the following day.
The Principal and fire department continue their investigation.
