Teachers Petition Board Over VP

The entire Hillside High School faculty and over 230 high school students petitioned the Board of Education to reconsider its recent decision to not renew the contract of the Vice Principal.

According to a letter signed by the teachers, the vice principal was "an effective administrator who is supportive of the staff and firm and fair with the students."

High school faculty packed the board meeting on Wednesday in hopes of the board reversing its decision, but the Council's budget cut left the board no other alternative but to let go of one of its high school administrators.

The board also eliminated an elementary vice principal position citing budget difficulties.

"We wish that everyone could keep their job with the board, but people must understand that this district just doesn't have the money," board member Nathalie Yafet said.
