School Board to Reduce Spending This Year
After a million dollar cut by the Township Council, members of the Hillside Board of Education vowed to rein in spending as a promise to the overburdened taxpayers of Hillside.
"We have quite a job ahead of us. The Township Council made it a bit difficult for us, but we can't keep complaining, we have to act," Board president Sip Whitaker said.
Board member Nathalie Yafet told the DISPATCH that now more than ever the board must look to bring in grants and outside funding.
"There are so many companies out there that are willing to donate to the school system; all we have to do is ask. We can't keep asking the taxpayers to pay more every year," Yafet said.
The school board's plans for cost reduction include reducing legal fees and seeking more affordable insurance fees.
