Robbers Scam Resident at Home

Be on the lookout for scam artists looking to rob your home!

Last week, a resident of Bright and Silver in Hillside had tens of thousands of dollars robbed from her home while she stood outside talking to one of the crooks.

According to an eyewitness account, one of the thieves, falsely claiming to be fencing contractor, rang the doorbell of the elderly lady at about three o'clock on a Thursday afternoon.

He cajoled her into stepping outside to examine the work he would be able to do around her property.

But at the same time, the phony fencer's accomplices broke into the home in the back, ransacked the house, and made off in a new blue van with thousands of stolen dollars.

This is not the first time robbers have attempted to break into a home in broad daylight while the owners were at home.

A few months ago residents reported men dressed as utility workers attempting the same thing.
