School Board Examines Contracts in Bid to Cut Costs
After suffering a million dollar budget cut by the Township Council, the Hillside Board of Education is looking to save on costs in a yearlong effort to reinstate eliminated programs and improve the conditions of the schools.
First on the new school board's agenda will be to review food service and transportation contracts to ensure that the township benefits from the most cost-effective deals, sources reveal to the DISPATCH.
The Board has already asked that food service companies submit their proposals.
The school board does not operate the kitchens in the schools. Instead, a food service offers the meals at a cost to the board.
School board members will be looking for a company that can offer healthier menu items for the students while providing more affordable services.
The Board of Education will also be looking to ensure that transportation providers improve their services as their contracts come up for renewal.
