Starting Off On The Wrong Foot

If the latest Township Council meeting is any indication of what's to come, then Hillside is in trouble.

Last year, the Council, under the presidency of Ward Three Councilman John Kulish, was nothing if not civil. Residents, (the few that attended the meeting), were allowed to speak during the public hearing and even voice their dissenting opinions. They were allowed to do so without harassment from the Council and township employees.

But at the last Council meeting, it appears that the Council has reverted to its former ways: jeer, snide, and lampoon citizens who raise criticism.

The Council has been known for its rude treatment of residents at meetings, and Council President Sam McGhee should ensure that that does not occur any further.

The Council should welcome criticism and encourage residents to attend Council meetings.
